Expedition

An Astronomical Overview

Expedition is an educational web experience that takes users on a journey to explore the possibilities of space travel and multiplanetary life. Through interactive activities and multimedia content, users can learn about the history of space exploration, imagine what life could be like on other planets, and gain an in-depth look at the potential of space travel and expansion beyond Earth.

The global pandemic had generated a gloomy outlook for many, with nothing positive to discuss or report about. This project sought to generate excitement and positivity for the idea of space travel and the settlement of other planets. It aimed to encourage people to look beyond the global pandemic and focus on the optimistic and exciting future of space exploration.

Designing a Stellar Brand Identity

I designed the brand 'Expedition' for this project. Taking inspiration from NASA and SpaceX, the logo of this brand is modern and slightly futuristic. I have created a full version logo and an abbreviated version, 'EX', for use in more condensed settings.

The colour palette for the 'Expedition' project is a combination of navy blue, red and white, inspired by the colours of NASA. The navy blue gives a sense of sophistication and professionalism, while the white helps to create a more futuristic feel. The fonts used are san-serifs to provide a contemporary feel to the project.

Engaging Users Across the Cosmos

The website is designed to be accessible to a wide range of users, providing concise, easy to understand information in an attractive and engaging format. The website includes visuals and animations to enhance the user experience, as well as short paragraphs and tables to provide additional information. Additionally, the timeline page offers an interactive timeline of NASA and SpaceX's plans to return to the Moon and colonize Mars, ranging from 2011 to 2050.

Intergalactic Accessories

Expedition offers two large A2 posters featuring illustrations from the website. These posters can be put up in any room and serve as a reminder of our future in space. The posters are designed to be minimalist, only featuring a small logo at the top. Additionally, a sticker of an astronaut's helmet is available on the website as well.
